Counseling Ethics: Why Good Counselors Make Bad Choices
In-Person Ethics Workshop
Saturday April 1st, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM
HALO Project at 401 E Memorial Road, Oklahoma City

Typically counseling ethics trainings focus on the “What?”. “What do the ethics code say?”” What does our state regulations say?” “What should counselors do if they have an ethical dilemma?.” This training will focus on those factors but will also focus on the “Why?”

“Why do competent people knowingly break ethical codes and regulations?”.
We will also discuss the “How?” “How do you keep from getting into situations and becoming the victim of your own poor choices? “ New and updated: Mr. Perkins first presented this workshop in 2018 and 2019. Five years later, these principles still hold true. In addition, Mr. Perkins will present new research and historical events which have added to our knowledge of "Why good people do bad things".

Treatment Objectives Include:

-An overview of the top counseling ethical violations.
-An examination of situations in which research shows facilitates poor ethical judgement and ways to avoid them.
-A discussion of the importance of self-care to decrease stress and increase pro-social behaviors.
-
