Live Webinar: Attachment, Addiction, and Complex Trauma
3 Addictions Counseling Specific CEs
(3 Hours NBCC CEs)
Friday December 5th, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM
Attachment, Addiction, and Complex Trauma is a training examining how early childhood development and social determinants of health can predispose children to substance use and mental disorders as adolescents and adults. The first half of the training relates how Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs) impact brain and psychosocial development in ways that can lead to intergenerational trauma. The second half explores how these developmental attachment deficits can manifest as Substance Use Disorders later in life. We will examine a recent revision to the ACEs Survey that emphasizes resilience and corrects for psychosocial development.
Objectives Include:
-Develop a working familiarity with the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Survey
-Identify 3 ways in which ACEs impact brain development and emotional attachment
-Verbalize how ACEs can predispose later involvement with criminal justice systems
-Identify 3 types of attachment deficits associated with adult addiction and MH disorders
-Verbalize how attachment deficits can contribute to early substance use and addiction
-Explore how to use the ACEs/Attachment survey to screen and support their clients with handouts provided
