Executive Director of the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers Resigns

Posted By: Micah Perkins Licensure Board Updates,

This week, James Marks, the Executive Director of the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers, notified Oklahoma social workers via email of his resignation from the OSBLSW effective November 24, 2023.

In reviewing the OSBLSW website, the meeting agenda shows that the board held a special meeting and went into executive session on November 17, 2023 with the purpose of discussing the hiring of an Executive Director.

James Marks had been the Executive Director of the OSBLSW since 2011. The announcement of his resignation came as a surprise to many Oklahoma social workers. Many on social media expressed their appreciation for Mr. Marks and how he performed in his role.

On his LinkedIn page, Mr. Marks has posted that he has taken a position as Clinical Manager for Utilization Management at the Centene Corporation.

The Centene Corporation is the parent company of Oklahoma Complete Health, who, along with Aetna Better Health of Oklahoma and Humana Healthy Horizons of Oklahoma, was awarded contracts in June 2023 by the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to provide health management services for Sooner Select clients.

In addition to serving Oklahoma Medicaid members, Centene Corporation is the largest Medicaid managed care organization in the country serving Medicaid members in many other states, including Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, and New Mexico.

The Oklahoma Counseling Institute reached out to James Marks via LinkedIn for comment. Although our request was acknowledged, no additional comments were received before publishing.
