New Federal Law Requires Business Owners to File Ownership Report  

As of January 1st, the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) has gone into effect, requiring corporations, LLCs, and other businesses to file a Beneficial Ownership Report with the US Department of Treasury. The requirement aims to decrease the ability for anonymous shell companies to finance illegal activities. Read more about the requirement on the Oklahoma Counseling Institute site 

 

“Dry January” May Lead to Improvement in Mental and Physical Health 

Each year, many people choose to take part in “Dry January,” a month-long break from consuming alcohol. In an interview, psychologist Dr. Clarissa Belle reported that abstinence from drinking may improve sleep quality and energy. Read more about “Dry January” on NBC-affiliate Lexington 18. 

 

Food and Drug Administration Examining Reports of Suicidal Ideation Among Those on Weight Loss Medication 

GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Wegovy, are medications commonly used to treat diabetes and aid in weight loss. Governmental regulators in both the US and Europe are examining reports of emerging or increased suicidal thoughts and other side effects among those taking the medications. Read more on KOCO. 

 

Harvard Recruits TikTok Content Creators to Share Mental Healthcare Tips 

The Center for Health Communication at Harvard’s Chan School conducted a study in which 62 TikTok influences were trained to provide evidenced-based tips for mental healthcare. The study found a significant increase in post engagement and views once the influences began posting about research and effective self-care and coping strategies. Read more on NPR 

 

Study Reveals Risk of Early Death Among Those with Bipolar Disorder 

A long-term study by the University of Michigan examined mental health factors that may contribute to mortality. The results indicated that those with bipolar disorder were 6 times more likely to experience a premature death compared to peers without the condition. Read more on Science Daily.
